Repeat Prescriptions

Requesting a Repeat Prescription

At Anglesea GP Clinic, we aim to make requesting your regular prescriptions safe, timely, and straightforward. Please read the information below carefully before submitting a prescription request.

How to Request a repeat Prescription

You can request a repeat prescription in the following ways:

  • Online via our patient portal (ManageMyHealth App)
  • By phone or email (for standard repeat prescriptions only)

To avoid delays, please ensure:

  • Your request is made at least 72 hours (3 working days) before the medication is required
  • Your contact details are up to date
  • You specify the pharmacy you would like the prescription sent to

Urgent requests may be responded and actioned within 24 hours Monday to Friday (lunch time). Urgent fee may apply.

Repeat Prescriptions without appointment

Repeat prescriptions are available only for registered patients who:

  • Are taking long-term, stable medication
  • Have had a recent clinical review as required by their clinician
  • Are up to date with any recommended monitoring (e.g. blood tests, blood pressure checks)

A prescription fee may apply for repeat prescriptions that do not require an appointment.

New 12-Month Prescription Renewal Policy

From February 2026, Anglesea GP Clinic will be able to prescribe some medicines for up to 12 months, instead of the current maximum of three months. This national change aims to make it easier for people to access their long-term medications providing their health condition is stable.

What this means

  • Most long-term medications can be prescribed for up to 12 months
  • Patients must have at least one clinical review every 12 months to renew ongoing medications
  • Some medicines may require more frequent reviews due to safety, legal, or clinical reasons

Please note: 12-month prescriptions are unable to be issued without a consultation. Book an appointment with your doctor to see if you’re eligible.

Medications not suitable for 12-month renewal

The following usually require more frequent review and cannot be issued for 12 months without assessment:

Controlled drugs

  • Medications with higher safety risks
  • Medications requiring close monitoring
  • New medications or recent dose changes
  • Your clinician will advise if your medication is eligible.

When an Appointment Is Required

You will need to book an appointment if:

  • Your medication review is due or overdue
  • Your condition or symptoms have changed
  • Monitoring tests are outstanding
  • The clinician determines a review is clinically necessary

Repeat prescriptions may be declined until a review is completed.

Prescription Processing Time

Allow up to 72 hours (3 working days) for routine prescription requests

Processing time may be longer during busy periods or if clinical review is required

You will be contacted if there are any issues with your request
